Adam Stacy-Marks' 4½ litre GO 5629, 1983-2010

Contributed by Adam Stacy-Marks (Former owner)

This car was owned by Adam Stacy-Marks from 1983 to 2010.

"The car was built for Mr Adcock to race after the War. He was believed to be a Spitfire Pilot by Fred Hofman. He was the legendary Pre-War Bentley tuner and of Hofman and Burton / Mountford fame. The car was also owned and raced by Barry Eastick then Harold (Spitfire) Pounds who added a Spitfire water pump on lowering the radiator, raced by daughter Dane Scott-Brown. It was briefly owned by Ed Hubbard and was passed via Stanley Mann to Adam Stacy-Marks who then owned and campaigned the car for the next 25-plus years."

"I purchased the car from Ed Hubbard via Stanley Mann in 1988 and gradually rebuilt and modified the car for campaigning in a number of different disciplines and events. When purchased, it had an alloy unpainted finish and was on a 9ft shortened chassis with a piece of chassis removed from behind the radiator and replaced ahead. This was unmodified and lengthened to 9' 9" enabling an overdrive to be fitted for long distance rallies. The "A" box was converted to "D" spec. The heavy crank car ran on white metal mains and shell big ends and was regularly revved to 4000 rpm. It was painted specifically to gain entry into the Mille Miglia.

I have recently re-discovered an image given to me (photo above) by Daena Scott-Brown (nee Pounds) of her Father driving GO 5629. Harold Pounds raced GO 5629 at Antwerp Speed Trials in 1959 with a flying kilometre at 119.75 m.p.h.!"
