Are Vintage Bentleys a good future investment? That is a popular question. Recessions, depressions, wars and other world turmoil usually depress stocks and real estate and raise the prices of collectibles. There are exceptions but when people are worried about the economy they take their money and put it where it is safe. Currently, stocks are high because countries are printing money to prop up the markets. What if the world goes into a recession or even depression. Will Vintage Bentleys surge in price?

What is the current status of the auto collectible market? Quoting Rick Carey in Victory Lane magazine, March 2013, sales at the top auction houses were up 25% in 2012 over 2011. He backs it up with seven pages of statistics. More cars sold and the very desirable cars increased the most in value. He states, "It is something of a self-fulfilling prophecy. As the prices for great cars get higher, owners find it more attractive to put them up for sale." So who is smarter? The seller or the buyer? Are we at a peak in values or are we on the verge of a boom as investors turn their stock portfolios into collector cars? Remember the poor economy and car boom of the 1980s was followed by the great economy and the lingering collector car market of the 1990s. In the last few years the economy has been bad and prices of good collector cars have risen. I think the economy will be getting worse in the future and Vintage Bentley prices will rise.

And if I am wrong, this may be what people will be saying in the future:

Bentley: Six Cylinder Models, In Detail
6½-Litre, Speed Six, 8-Litre & 4-Litre, 1926-1931

If you are a hard-core Vintage Bentley enthusiast, the first question is, "Will I learn anything new in these books or are they just a rehash of previous Bentley books?" Having read everything Bentley that I have been able to lay my hand on since my youth in the 1950s, I have good news. James Taylor notes in the introduction that he recognizes the abundance of previously printed Vintage Bentley literature over the last 80 years and the current crop of books available...

The history of Supercharger MS3926 and more

We bring you an extract from the book The Spirit of Competition, By Dr. Frederick A. Simeone outlining the history of serial no. MS3926. "I wanted to fill in some information on our blower car, MS3926. Reason I think I should do this is because, through your site, I was amazed at how few cars have original engines, transmissions, and most notably, bodies..." says Dr. Simeone, renowned neurosurgeon, automotive historian and museum owner.

Bentley Front-wheel Brakes Standardized

Published in "The Motor", September 18, 1923

Bentley Motors Ltd., decided not to supply front wheel brakes of any kind with their chassis until they were satisfied that they had produced an absolutely fool-proof system. Realizing the danger involved by fitting types of an unperfected character, this concern has spent a great deal of time and money in producing a system that is (a) perfectly safe in the hands of the ordinary driver at the wheel of a fast car; and (b) long-lived and easy to adjust.
