When the clock strikes twelve on New Year Eve, people all over the world will be cheering and wishing each other a Happy New Year. We all look forward to a wonderful new year and that includes enjoying your Bentley. Start the new year off right, and before you go to bed, have a glass of wine or beer with your car, reminiscing last year's events and promising the old beast that the best is yet to come.

Mona and I thank you for your interest and participation in VintageBentleys.org. Your support keeps the web site interesting for all its viewers and contributes to the wealth of information and photos that will provide all of us and future generations with a permanent record of Vintage Bentley history, maintenance and restoration. We have come a long way and we have a long way to go, so please forward the information and photos you have on our car, and the cars of others. It all adds up.

Thank you and a happy and prosperous New Year to you all.

I would also like to thank the following vintage Bentley enthusiasts for their contributions in December 2012:

Bob Ashworth, Edward Towers, Ernst Jan Krudop, Greg Porter, Hans Hugenholtz, Keith Carnelley, Liz Legg, Paul Tunnicliffe, Philip Douglas, Pipo Aymamí, R.T. Marsh, Robin Gurdon, Rod Hanson, Dr. Volker Buerkle (A few of the contributions are queued up and will be published in the next few days.)

Rebuilding History
Restoration of 1925 Vintage Bentley 3/4½ Litre Racer, Chassis no. 1131

This Bentley 3 Litre was purchased in June 1925 by The Honorable Janet Elizabeth Bruce, a granddaughter of the 8th Lord Elgin, Viceroy of India from 1894 to 1899. She remained a spinster until she died aged 76, in November 1966, and owned the car for all that time. The car was then sold and during the 1960s the chassis was shortened to "Speed Model" 9' 9" length. The original Harrisons coachwork, was like so many, discarded due to the dilapidated condition and lack of specialised restoration firms to restore it during the 1960s... This car is now in the ownership of Tim Summers and is in the process of being restored.

Ex Western Australian Police Force, chassis LR2785

Graeme Miller, owner of Chassis No. LR2785, talks about the special history of his 1930 vintage Bentley and its erstwhile role in keeping law and order in Australia. "This was one of two cars delivered new to the Western Australian Police Force in chassis form only", says Graeme Miller. It was used by the Force from late 1930 to 1946.

Article from 1925
The New Six-Cylinder Bentley

Published in "The Autocar", June 19, 1925

The four-cylinder three-litre was built primarily as a sports model. In course of time it has attained a considerable vogue as a fast and reliable touring car with an almost endless life, the original sports model being retained as a separate type of chassis, and it will interest all owners and prospective owners of the three-litre models to know that this chassis will be continued absolutely unaltered, and is not in any way superseded by the new six-cylinder.

Instruction Books - The starting point
3 Litre :: 6½ Litre :: 4½ Litre :: 8 Litre :: 4 Litre

It is surprising how many owners do not possess the 'Instruction Book' for their vintage Bentleys. When it comes to restoration, the little Instruction Books are a good place to begin... You will find one for each model here.

If you want a copy to keep, just request us for a convenient PDF download.
