Thank you very much for the encouragement and the torrent of contributions that didn't stop all month. It has to be our collective mission to track down every single Vintage Bentley and its history in all its authenticity. Indeed, it has been heartening to see the pieces fall into place so rapidly over the last few weeks.

I would especially like to thank all you Bentley boys who made the month of June 2012 very special with your contributions of information, photos, anecdotes and tidbits:
Alexander E. Bäggli, Anthony Barrett, Anthony Essington, Anthony Showell, Anton van Luijk, Bernd Lehmann, Bob Rippon, Christopher Jonas, Daniel Sielecki, David Abbott, David Green, Ellen Stanwell, Eric Barnett, Georg Weidmann, Gregor Fisken, Gregory Porter, Guy Wyatt, Ian Setchell, Icarus Mackew, James Berggren, James Mitchell, James Woolnough, Juergen Kay, Kobus van Jaarsveld, Malcolm Tearle, Michael A. W. Hendry, Michael Hendry, Mueller Hendrik, Nigel Catterall, Paul Steele, Peter Harnik, Philip Bishop, Philip Lane, Phillip Dutton-White, Roy Ginn, Stuart Maxwell, Tery Hurst, Thurston Twigg-Smith Jr., Tim Summers, Tom Purcell, Tony Sinclair, Dr. Volker Buerkle, Yves Kai, Walter McCarthy, Wayne Kennerly. (A few of the contributions are queued up and will be published in the next few days.)

Keep up the good work! Please remember, no piece of information is too small or insignificant if it in any way adds to what is already known about these Bentleys. So dig up those old photos and files and take this opportunity to document every possible historical (and current) detail for posterity and the future owners of our Vintage Bentley cars.

June 29, 2012: Bonhams - Goodwood Festival of Speed
No. 1 Birkin Blower that hit 137mph in 1931 could sell for £5M today!

The 1929 Bentley 4.5 Litre, driven by British racing legend Sir Henry 'Tiger Tim' Birkin, set a lap record at the iconic Brooklands Outer Circuit in 1931 when it hit a staggering 137mph.

Experts estimate the classic Bentley could fetch up to £5million - making it the most expensive British-built car ever sold publicly.

It would smash the £3.5million paid in 2007 for a 1904 Rolls-Royce, with inflation adjustments making it around £4 million today.

The Double-Twelve Hour Race

Published in "The Motor", May 13, 1930

Many times in the long and thrilling history of motor racing a great triumph has been marred by a great tragedy. The magnificent success of the British cars in the Junior Car Club's Double-Twelve Hour Race at Brooklands last Friday and Saturday (May 9 & 10, 1930) was offset by a deplorable accident in which a competitor and a spectator lost their lives and many other people were more or less seriously injured.
