Desert Spring Tour, 2001

1928 4½ Litre Vanden Plas Weyman sports four seater light tourer - Owner: Jim & Cleo Stroman
"Referred to as the Afghanistan Bentley when Captain R. R. Griffith took it to Mardan, India in June of 1938. After a few owners, the car eventually ended up in Kabul, Afghanistan and was owned by Major Alf H. Johanson, U.S.A.F. A few more years passed and an American couple, Charlie & Lillian Winter, became the owners and drove the car 1,300 miles from Kabul to Karachi via the Khyber Pass and from there shipped the car to Liverpool. In Liverpool Tony Townshend did a complete restoration and in 1964 MF3168 finally arrived in the US. Now firmly fixed in Texas, with another American couple Jim & Cleo at the wheel, the 'Afghanistan Bentley' is alive and roaring."
