Invermay Hill Climb 1975

"This fine study of Michael Haggitt's 1925 "Blue Label" 10'10" chassis 1063 was photographed at the Otago Branch of the Vintage Car Club's Invermay Hill Climb event in February 1975 by John King.

Johnny Green's Bentley - Fifty Years of the Marque (Dalton Watson, London 1969) described this coachwork as a "self-constructed four-seater tourer" and some of its splendid period detail such as its wicker seats can be clearly seen. The car came to New Zealand second-hand in 1934, and known as The Baby Bentley" was used as a farm hack by Miss Farnsworth and Miss Lucy Wills at Tekapo Station until Michael bought the chassis in 1951. Sadly Michael is no longer with us, and his beloved Bentley has also left the country. Gavin Bain and Ron Hasell provided the historical details of 1063."

1. "Our own heroes; Easter 1961, and the Haggitt family's 3litre Bentley, chassis 1063; McKellars' 4½ litre Lagonda; and the Pinckneys' Silver Ghost, chassis 14KG at Cardrona during their trip around the as yet incomplete Haast Pass. Willis and Mary Brown took the ex- C.W.F. Hamilton 4½ litre Bentley, chassis HF3198 around too, and Willis took the photograph." — From the article 'James Bond’s Bentley Continental' by David A. Sulzberger

2. "Willis Brown's photograph taken at Easter 1961, when (from left) the Pinckneys in Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost 14KG, McKellars in their 4½-litre Lagonda, the Haggitts in their 3-litre Bentley 1063, and Browns in HF3198 travelled to Haast. The road through the Haast Pass was still largely unmade, and the connection with the rest of the West Coast was not completed until the end of 1965."
