Owner, Ben Collings, participating in Vintage Sports Car Club Lakeland Trial on Nov. 11, 2006 in his Bentley 3-Litre Tourer.

Ben Collings took victory in the Vintage Sports-Car Club Lakeland Trial on 11 November after a superb drive in his Bentley 3 Litre, beating lighter, nimbler machines in challenging conditions.

Relentless rain and fog faced the 100-plus entry over 14 sections across the beautiful northern Lakes. "It was so cold and wet we even drove Drumhouse with the hood up," said a jubilant Collings. "But it was such an exciting event. When I'm 80 I'll look back and thank God I did it. On Nanny's Peep I had to bounce the front hub off a tree to clear a marker and that won us the trial." At the finish just one point separated the class 2 Bentley from David Dye's class 1 Austin Seven.
