"Hello Wayne - Question: You mention the Reg no. as 6-534. The rear plate shows 4.991 and the front plate XU 7551. Enlightenment clarification."

From Wayne Fitzgerald - October 17, 2016

"As it is vintage, it only needs to carry the one permit plate and I have it on the rear... it WAS permitted No. 4-991 but when I went to renew it, I was told by VicRoads had given MY number to another car... meaning there were 2 cars out there with the same number. They made the error, but to keep it current, I had to accept another number (6-534).

I still have its original UK plate on the front... probably illegal, but it looks great. How’s that? Complicated enough?

It went to the WA BDC rally in 2004 (drove to Adelaide, then trained to Perth where we picked up the rally in Fremantle) ...afterwards, we drove it back across the Nullarbor in 40 degree C heat! (Actually it was 45 degrees when we hit Port
Lincoln).

We had 8 cars and it was amazing how the cars just kept going while the occupants wilted! They, and we, were never designed for that heat. I might add that we did put the roof up for 2 days! (only)

More recently we re-ran the great Alpine rally (before the snow season I might add) and again, it went well. They are fun but challenging to drive, a tad more power would be nice sometimes however.

It drives well in today’s traffic but bad roads do knock it about a bit. Obviously it has appropriate lighting... indictors, stop etc.

Pictures above… I am with Geoff Venn and his wife in Canberra (Alpine rally) in the 1st picture; he was very happy to see his old car again. The 2nd & 3rd pics are in front of the old Parliament House (Canberra), same rally. In the 4th picture, the cars are all lined up on the way home, mine (668) is the 5th car from the left."
