PN 9513 at Akaroa Race track in New Zealand - February 2008

PN 9513 was registered on 27th May 1932, originally as a Carlton Saloon to R.O. Hambro in Forest Row, Sussex. It was sold without guarantee by Jack Barclay, after the takeover of Bentley Motors by Rolls-Royce.

The car was sold to G.C. Usher of Aldwych House, Aldwych in 1935 at a mileage of approximately 20,000. By 1939 mileage had increased to around 50,000 but little is known of its history until after the War. In 1951 it was registered to Alfred Butler in Scholes near Leeds at which time it appears to have had a Shooting-Brake body fitted. In 1956 it was then owned by the Hunslet Engine Company in Leeds and was fitted with a diesel engine.

The car was bought by Chris Posnett of Barton Malpas in 1967, one of six 8 Litres that he bought as a very wise investment. He re-fitted an original 8 Litre engine which was reputed to have been in the racing Sunbeam, "Tigress". The car body was by this time removed from the car.

Little was then done to the car by him until bought by the current owner in 2002, it being in a pretty derelict state without body but largely mechanically complete. The car has undergone a total rebuild which was entrusted to Wayne Huckle in Lincolnshire who has completed the car in the style of what an 8 Litre would have been had it raced at Le Mans in the Bentley heyday. It drove for the first time in forty years in June 2007.

Following completion of the rebuild and a running-in period in the UK, the car was shipped to South Africa for the 6th International Vintage Bentley Tour of South Africa in October 2007. After the car was fully run in, it demonstrated its capabilities at over 100 mph with ease and it completed the 3,500 mile trip in tremendous form without incident.

From South Africa the car was then shipped, along with a number of others, to New Zealand where it took part in the New Zealand Vintage Bentley Tour 2008 in February. Other than a minor problem with the car's dynamo, it performed magnificently on this 3,500 mile tour along tremendous roads, many of which rivalled to Alps for gradient and number of hairpin bends per mile.

The car has now been returned to the UK where it is being fully serviced in preparation for sale.

This car is for sale as of June 1, 2009.

1932 8 litre, Reg No: PN 9513, Engine No:YX 5101, Chassis No:YM 5046

PN 9513 was registered in April 1932, originally as a Carlton Saloon. Little is known of its early history. In the 1950's it appears to have had a Shooting-Brake body fitted and whilst owned by the Hunslet Engine Company, was fitted with a diesel engine.

The car was bought by Chris Posnett in 1967, one of six 8 litres that he bought as a very wise investment. He re-fitted an original 8 litre engine which was reputed to have been in the racing Sunbeam,"Tigress".

Little was then done to the car by him until bought by the current owner in 2002, it being in a pretty derelict state without body but largely mechanically complete. As the owner has been living and working in Indonesia for the last couple of years, the total rebuild of the car was entrusted to Wayne Huckle who has completed the car in the style of what an 8 litre would have been had it raced at Le Mans in the Bentley heyday.
