Benjafield Racing Club 2015 Goodwood Sprint

Benjafield's Sprint brings rare cars to Goodwood
Benjafield's Racing Club held its first Sprint event for seven years on Saturday 23rd May 2015, bringing a fantastic line-up of rare racing cars spanning over 100 years. Some drivers had driven for 24hrs while others flew in in from across Europe, New York, Singapore and beyond especially for the exclusive event that was free for spectators to attend.

Spectators were rewarded with a fantastic day of sprinting, with a lunchtime parade of all 23 Vintage Bentleys taking part, including several of the original Bentley 4.5L Blowers, before the cars lined up on the grid for enthusiasts to take a closer look.

The next Benjafield's Sprint will be held in May 2016.

Car is marked as 'SOLD' on Stanley Mann Racing website as of May 06, 2010.

The following text was found on Stanley Mann's ad accompanying the photographs:

"1928 Bentley 4½ Litre Le Mans
Registration Number: MP 2219 Chassis Number: RN 3042 Engine Number: PM 3263

Here is a vintage Bentley which has had the preverbal (proverbial) fortune spent on her to get the ultimate mechanical reliability to do any race meeting or long rally you can throw at her.

In 2007 she competed in the Peking/Paris and finished 10th overall and 4th in class and winning a gold star (I feel a wow coming on).

Having done the event she was stripped down and given a full check over again with more vast bills to back this up.

So if you feel like getting a late entry for the 2010 Peking/Paris or want a real driver's vintage Bentley, then come along to The Fruit Farm and we can try and have a deal, no, correct that please, haggle. I do enjoy a good haggler."

Peking To Paris Rally — 2007

History Of The Peking To Paris Rally
In 1907 a Parisian newspaper issued a challenge: "What needs to be proved today is that as long as a man has a car, he can do anything and go anywhere. Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?"

So started the Peking to Paris motor race.

Only five motorists managed to make the start in vehicles ranging from a three wheeled Contal cycle car to a 7 Litre Itala. The race followed a telegraph route which allowed the journalist travelling as a passenger in each car to wire their reports to the newspapers. This enabled the public in Europe and America to keep abreast of the race while it was being run.

The race was won by Prince Scipione Borghese in his Itala. The Prince was so confident of his chances of winning that he took a detour from Moscow to St Petersburg to attend a dinner held in his honour, before re-joining the race in Moscow.

(The following was written prior to the start of the 2007 event)
To celebrate this early pioneering motoring event The Endurance Rally Association has organised a re-enactment of the race to be held in 2007. A total of 134 cars will set out from Beijing (formerly Peking) on May 27th to follow the 1907 route as closely as possible (even making the detour from Moscow to St Petersburg).

"I have been the owner of MP2219 — a 4½ that my father built from bits and pieces. It went really well, would cruise at 80 mph all day :-). I have fond memories of doing a few laps around the Barcelona F1 circuit. Anyway, I sold the car to a guy in the UK that wanted to do the Paris Peking rally..."

Symon Tabbenor's father owned Chassis no. BR2355 in the early 1970s.
