"Chassis No. RL3444: The above chassis number on your website mentions a confusion with a car offered for sale by Stanley Mann. There is no connection between the cars, the reason is that in the advertisement by Stanley Mann the engine number and chassis number have been transposed. The car advertised by Stanley Mann should be chassis number RL3441 and engine number RL3444."

"Bentley 4½ ltr Le Mans
Registration Number: XV 7300*; Chassis Number: RL3444; Engine Number: RL3441
(*In July 2012 Stanley Mann had for sale Chassis no. RL3441 with Reg. no XV 7300. But the same registration number has also been attributed to the car above (Chassis no. RL3444). There appears to be some confusion. We welcome our readers to comment on this. — VintageBentleys.org)
Price: £ Is this what your dreaming of?

1929 Bentley 4½ Ltr Le Mans
Still on her original uncut chassis (Bentley aficionados don't approve of shortening chassis`s)
To fully enjoy the experience of owning a Vintage Bentley this might float your boat.
We are currently rebuilding a 4½ Ltr Le Mans to team car spec similar to above and have just fitted new phoenix crank and rods. Were about 3 months away from completion. With the added advantage for a prospective chap of being able to give some input and add any fittings that he may like; thus making for a more personal vintage Bentley just like when they were ordered new from Bentley Motors London in the 20s"

"This bored-out race winning 4,487 cc.1929 Bentley competed in the hands of its owner F.E.Elgood in the late 1930s achieving a distance in 1938 of 98 miles in the rain in a one hour blind at Brooklands, going on some time later to achieve 110.3 miles in the hour when conditions were more favorable, taking the Baddeley Trophy First place in the 1937 October Short Handicap, with a fastest lap of 108.03 mph was followed by another first at 109.46 at the Whitsun meeting of the following year and a third in the 1938 Dunlop Jubilee Cup race, averaging 100.64 mph, a best lap of 121.47 mph all these races all at Brooklands.

Well so much for the history but read on, there's more. The car was reunited with F.E. Elgood in 1969 some 30 odd years after his Brooklands experiences, and he confirmed this to be his car. All good race cars have bits added, altered and changed so in the end the anoraks have a job to identify what they are looking at. I don't have this problem as I am an active.

If you're not too bored with all this, may I say here that this a very important Vintage Bentley. Rebuilt after the war by Bill Short the ugly body that it had at Brooklands was discarded and some alterations made where necessary. Remember at this time (late 40s) these cars had no real value but in this case money was spent so she could carry on her racing career. Although a slight change in appearance she was positively identified by F.E. Elgood in 1969 as his car.

The Bentley Drivers Club in its review September 1957 mentions its owner John Forman as driving the Elgood car with new body and pictures at that time show it as is today. This Bentley has been loved and looked after by one Bentley enthusiast for over 40 years.

A joy to drive (yes with all the best bits) not concourse but real."

Recent Work:

New toneau cover
Re-cord Radiator
