"Hi.. I am not sure if this is the sort of input that you would publish... However, I would like to communicate to the car's present owner:

I went to look at your car a few days before you bought it from the Real Car Company in Wales. I was a bit put out that Ray had warmed the car up before I got there... And I found changing gear very difficult. Ray informed me that a buyer had rushed out of London to see the car hoping that it was an original bodied car but had not bought it.

I have owned many vintage cars but a vintage Bentley is my car of choice. However your car was the first Vintage Bentley that I had ever driven so I was a bit apprehensive about driving her. To cut a long story short I didn't buy the car. Now I find that your car was the car of my dreams. I think that they refer to this as a Hamlet Cigar moment. So near and yet so far...

If you ever decide to sell her please let me know...

A sales photo from the time that I nearly bought her"

VintageBentleys.org to Brian Rivett, Jan 2013
"You recently submitted information on two Bentleys in our 'unidentified' Bentleys page, attributing both these cars to being Chassis No. AX1661. And while you have mentioned the Reg no. as YH 462 the car shown in one of the pics bears reg plate reading YH 452."

Brian Rivett to VintageBentleys.org, Feb 2013

"You're right! I didn't have the photgraph in front of me when I wrote the email to you. The reason for my error is that the number in the factory records is handwritten and indistinct, and was the subject of some debate as to whether it reads 452 or 462. When it came to reclaimimg the original number from the UK licensing department, to replace the registration mark that the car was given on its return from the Federal Malay Staes in 1936, we plumped for 462.

We bought the car in 2005, through The Real Car Company, which usually deals in Derby and Crewe, not Cricklewood Bentleys, was seemingly unaware that they had a late all matching numbers AX chassis lurking beneath the rather decrepit exterior. I am very busy at the moment, but I shall send you some photographs which will show the car in its various stages of rebuild and will describe in a little more detail the work that has been carried out."
